Without a doubt, one of the top free things to do in Galveston TX is to take a stroll along Seawall Blvd. It is a well paved and wide sidewalk that stretches for miles.

In fact, it is so long that it claims the crown of being the longest continuous sidewalk in the United States. One thing we really liked about the hike, stroll, and walk on this sidewalk is that it is so close to the beach, and it almost feels like you are literally walking on the shores without the sand.

On the one side of the sidewalk, is a major road with a flurry of activities going on and on the other side is the beach. The more interesting thing is the array of things that you can do and access while on the sidewalk.

You can go into the beaches from the Galveston Seawall Blvd sidewalk, you can also access a bunch of different seafood and restaurants, fishing piers, the Island Historic Pleasure Pier and more.

The Galveston-Port Bolivar Ferry service is free and fun. The ferry is multi-purpose, it has the section for cars to drive onto it, bikes too and pedestrians. It plies the Galveston-Bolivar route, 24 hrs a day.

So essentially, it departs Galveston and arrives Bolivar with the passengers aboard and vice versa. A sunset ride will probably be the most beautiful and more often than not, you will see dolphins swimming along.

Overall, we enjoyed the ride, although we had to wait for about an hour before getting on and departing. We enjoyed the view of the seagulls flying by and we briefly saw two dolphins performing sea acrobatics.

We were asked to remain in our vehicles until the ferry departed. It has a nice watch tower that we climbed to get better views. It took us a little over 20 minutes to get to Bolivar.

7. Chill and Relax at Saengerfest Park

Saengerfest Park

There is more than one way to explore and enjoy the Strand Historic District in Galveston TX. One of such ways is to chill and relax at the Saengerfest Park located in the corner of The Strand St and The 23rd St.

It is a park with concrete flooring and occasionally will have an event going on. A portion of the floor has a chess board, this enhances the fun that can be had here.

There are wooden benches but most of the people we saw in the Saengerfest Park came with their own beach chairs and of course, some refreshment.
