Located right in Belton’s Historic Downtown, the Bell County Museum is very popular with visitors and tourists. The locals also enjoy visiting this fantastically run museum.

This museum’s primary focus is to capture, preserve and showcase the local history of the Bell County area. It does this primary assignment to very applaudable heights.

When we visited the Bell County Museum, we saw exhibits about the Gault Site.

Also included in the permanent exhibits are themes about the Bell County history, sub-divided into “Education and Culture”, “Land”, “Agriculture and Ranching” and “Transportation and Industry”.

Another permanent exhibit in the museum is the “Little River Log Cabin”, it was originally built in the 1850’s. The original logs and stones from the 1850’s can still be found in this exhibit.

2. Bell County Expo Center

The Bell County Expo Center is one of the most popular venues or attractions for tourists who visit the Belton or Temple area of Texas. It is really one of the top things to do in Belton Texas.

The venue is very easily accessible, as it is just off I-35 south and has a very large free in-complex parking.

There is almost always something going on in the venue. When we visited, we attended a concert, and the sound system was really good.

They play host to state fairs, youth fairs, rodeos, concerts, tours, racing and much more. The indoor arenas are very well air conditioned and ventilated.


3. Miller Springs Nature Center and Park

The Leon River is sandwiched on both sides by the Miller Springs Nature center and Park.

We accessed the park through the entrance on Farm-To-Market 2271, directly opposite Live Oak Ridge Park.

In all, the Miller Springs Nature Center encompasses a landmass totaling over 260-acres. It is ideal for hiking, biking, and walks. In fact, it has about 10 total miles of trails, though not continuous.

Some other popular activities that visitors to this center do include bird watching, picnics and fishing.

Furthermore, before setting out on the hike, it is advisable to take pictures of the map of the trail that is in the kiosk. This can come in handy, during your hike.


4. Explore The Belton Lake

The Belton Lake is the fulcrum of most outdoor activities in the Belton Tx area.

There are so many boat ramps, docks, and access points to the lake all around this remarkable body of water.

We visited the Lakeview Park access area, which is adjacent to Frank’s Marina.

Some of the other access points include but are not limited to “Live Oak Ridge”, which doubles as a campground, “Cedar Ridge”, “West Cliff Park”, White Flint Park” and many more.

The Belton Lake is well noted for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, shoreline fishing and other water sports.


5. Tour The Gault Site

While in the Belton Area, you can participate in the tour of the Gault Site, and it will cost $10 person.

This tour will take about two and a half hours to complete. By its end, this tour will have you feeling like an Archaeologist.  This is one of the special events occasionally organized by the Bell County Museum.

To participate in this historically relevant tour, you will have to make reservations ahead of the tour day.

Prior to embarking on the tour, maps will be made available. Note that the Gault Site is about 20 or so miles away from Belton, between the cities of Florence and Salado.

As noted above, the Live Oak Ridge Park is opposite one of the entrances into Miller Springs Nature Center.

For those who are visiting the Belton Lake area and have an RV that they would like to park, Live Oak Ridge Park provides a fantastic option.

For one, you will enjoy parking and hanging out under the huge oak trees in this park and additionally, you can access the Belton Lake shoreline from within the park.

There are over 45 campsites on this campground and depending on where the site is on the campground, you can have very good views of the lake, limited view, or no direct view.

Some of the amenities on this campground include but not limited to water, electricity, showers, restrooms, grills and more.

Question: Does the Live Oak Ridge Park have campsites that have 50 Amp electric features?
Answer: Yes, they do. Some are rated at 50 Amps and others at lower Amps, such as 30 Amps.

Answer: No, they do not. The requirement is to have prior reservation before visiting the campground. Gate access information will be provided after payment, sometimes, as part of the payment receipt. Currently, you can reserve 6 months in advance.

Add stationary grills, concrete tables, and chairs to the list of what you are looking for? Then the Belton Lakeview Park is the place for you.

This park is big and expansive, it has several pavilions with a park-owned grill, concrete table, and chairs ready to cater to your guests.

It has the Belton Lake in the background, adding that extra element of scenic view to this beautiful outdoor space. Granted, the trees block most of the view of the lake from the tents/pavilions but still, you get our drift.


8. Engage In Water Sports At Frank’s Marina

Frank’s Marina is located down the road from the Belton Lakeview Park. They share the same entrance off the feeder road.

Take left as soon as you turn right off the feeder road, go past the road that leads to the boat ramp and then turn right towards Frank’s Marina.

Some of the things you can do and rent at Frank’s Marina include boats, Bobcat boats, single and double kayaks, and paddleboards.

They also recently started to offer 2-hour long tours on their Bobcat boats, and it occurs twice a week.

The Yettie Polk Park is yet another beautiful outdoor space in Belton TX. It is popular with the locals and tourists also enjoy their time out there.

The Mother Neff State Park is located some 25 miles away from Belton TX and it is really popular with tourists and visitors to the area.

It is designated as a Texas State Park and some of the things that you can do in this 259-acre beautiful park includes but not limited to hiking, camping, picnic, wildlife viewing and geocaching.

The park is in the flood plain of the Leon River and has flooded in the past, as such, swimming and fishing are not allowed in the Mother Neff State Park.

While at the park, you can climb the lookout tower (CCC Tower), hike to the wash pond or the cave for Tonkawa Indian Tribe, dating back from the 1800’s.

The park is open for day use and overnight camping, they can occasionally reach capacity and thus, it is better to book ahead of your visit.

The park has amenities such as restrooms, electricity (50/30 Amps), shower, dish washing stations and more.
